Description
This photograph, taken by Clark Rice, is a bit surreal. It shows a display created for windows of the Rockwell-Perry department store, located at the corner of Main St. and Borden Ave. The theme was "Nitey Nite Songbirds" and was promoted in the Perry Herald for the week of October 29 - November 4, 1951.
We behold six mannequins dressed in Nitey Nite pajamas, along with a number of smaller dolls similarly attired. Artificial palm trees and birds in cages complete the array--behind a set of bars representing a zoo. In the foreground are two live flamingos. The birds correspond to pajama colors: flamingo pink, canary yellow, parakeet and hummingbird green, bluebird blue, and robin red.
