Title
Upland Cotton Production, 2019
Description
Chart created by the US Department of Agriculture shows county-level production of the more widely grown "upland cotton" variety. Although much of the old "Cotton Kingdom" of the antebellum south still produces this commodity, Texas has supplanted them. In terms of volume it produces more cotton than the next three states--Georgia, Mississippi, and Arkansas--combined. Cotton is a very water-intensive crop, and so its cultivation in Texas presupposes massive irrigation.
