Title
R. Pullyblank, Livery
Description
Number 28 on the Burleigh map, just off of Main Street, the stables of Richard Nelson Pullyblank (1863-1951) date to a time when horse-drawn vehicles were the primary alternative to walking. Established in the late 1880s, his livery was praised by the Caledonia "Advertiser" for the quality of his equipment and service: "A specialty is made in supplying carriages for weddings, funerals, receptions, and other entertainments" (17 Jan. 1895).<br />

The first image dates to 1904, just before automobiles arrived on the scene; the second from 1916 shows that Pullyblank had been forced to adapt his business towards gasoline-powered farming equipment.
