Title

Photocopies of Migrant Farmworkers

Description

Group of 25 photocopies with a post-it note attached: “A variety of photos that might gain responses." From this information and the image's subject matter, we can infer that they may have been brought by Geneseo Migrant Center staff to meetings with farmworkers--perhaps in writing workshops, perhaps some other forum. Underlying the post-it note are complex ethical issues concerning memory, trauma, and self-representation.

Many of the images here have higher-quality duplicates elsewhere in OpenVally taken from the photos themselves; however, some of these are the only available version. Known dates suggest the photographs were taken during the 1960s-70s; it's not known when the xerox images were created. The photocopying process has resulted in extremely high-contrast images that are striking in their own right. They have been cropped to remove considerable margins, leaving untouched some streaks from the copier.
