American Museum of Natural History, Plan of First Floor

Title

American Museum of Natural History, Plan of First Floor

Description

The American Museum of Natural History became famous, and then eventually infamous, for its gallery design combining natural history and anthropology. Rooms and carefully crafted dioramas showed taxidermied animals in their native habitats; so too were indigenous peoples. This index plan of the first floor, for example, greets visitors with North American mammals, birds, fish, and so on--but also Indians of the continent's various regions.
