"My Grandmom"
Description
An account of the resource
This poem showcases how much time migrant farmworkers spend apart from their families. Its circumstances were explained in an issue <em>Real Talk, </em>published by the Geneseo Migrant Center:<br /><br />"In honor of Mother's Day, Sunday May 14th, we would like to share a poem with you. The author, Herbert Canty, is a migrant farmworker who worked at Moore Camp in Wayland, New York last season. While he was in New York, his grandmother died. My Grandmom was written in her memory" (April 1989: 1).<br /><br />This poem captures the complexities of emotions that come with working separately from your family and facing the adversities of distance. <em>Note: the document orginally appeared by itself on an 8.5 x 11 sheet of paper; this image has been cropped for better readability</em>

<em>Following A Dream</em> Galleys and Selected Poems
Description
An account of the resource
This series of poems was created by various migrant workers on farms across New York that worked together with the Geneseo Migrant Center. The poems were organized in this collection by Sylvia Kelly, the director of the Creative Artists Migrant Program Services (CAMPS) of the BOCES-Geneseo Migrant Center. Several artists, teachers, and volunteers worked together to work, edit, and collect poems written during the 1980 migrant season. The collection was poetry was funded by Poets and Writer Inc. as well as assisted by other various companies around New York. The poems are a depiction of the experiences of migrant farmworkers, their dreams, aspirations, everyday thoughts, and overall view of the world. Poetry was a form of therapy for these workers to release their feelings and emotions surrounding their job system. Overall, "Following A Dream" showcases the hard work of the Geneseo Migrant Center C.A.M.P.S. and the talent of a multitude of migrant farmworkers.

An account of the resource
Collection of poems writing by migrant farmworkers, primarily during the 1970s and '80s. Some of the works had appeared in self-published photocopied editions, others in scholarly journals. Most of the poems were written by Black farmworkers who lived part of the year in Florida and traveled to Western NY for its harvest season. The collection is dedicated to Geneseo Migrant Center (GMC) founder Dr. Gloria Mattera, who began the program during the late 1960s and passed away in 1988. This scanned copy includes handwritten inscriptions suggesting that it had been gifted to then-GMC Director Robert Lynch.
