Description
An account of the resource
This collection gathers documents for a Perry Knitting Co. exhibit on OpenValley. They are drawn from from three main sources.<br /><br />First, the Clark Rice Photography Collection at the Perry, NY Public Library. Rice was a prolific photographer in Western New York throughout the mid-20th century. This collection includes scans of his work, and copies of images from the turn of the century photographer Merrium Crocker, whose studio Rice purchased. <br /><br />Secondly, the Henry Page Local History Files. Page was president of First National Bank of Perry, and a local historian associated with the public library for nearly five decades. His uncle, William, had helped secure funding from the Carnegie Corporation for its establishment in 1900 and construction in 1914. The Page collection contains various historical materials and photographs accumulated by him over the years.<br /><br />Thirdly, we draw upon various public domain texts, such as maps from the Library of Congress or <a href="http://perrypubliclibrary.advantage-preservation.com/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">digitized articles from local newspapers</a>. All images here are selections from these collections, chosen for their relevance to OpenValley project. We gratefully acknowledge the generosity of the Perry Public Library and its Director, Jessica Pacciotti.

An account of the resource
Pictured are officers and foremen attending the first of what was intended to be an annual banquet celebrating PKC's successful operation. We know there was an even more lavish event in 1912; after that, documentation is scarce.
In addition to the formal photograph, notation on its reverse side identified all attendees--including company manager George M. Traber, Sr. seated sixth from the right in the front row.

Description
An account of the resource
We look down upon the factory located alongside Silver Lake Outlet. Mill No. 1 is next to the smokestack, with Mill No. alongside. In the near foreground, on Elm Street, are Mills No. 4 and 5 (which later burned down in 1970). Behind them is the largest building, Mill No. 3 on Hope Street, which was the yarn mill.
Annotation reads: "Excellent aerial view of the Perry Knitting Company when it was in its hay day [sic]. I think the print was done by WahlAerial service about 1960. It might also have been done by Clark as it is not marked Wahl."

The Rice Collection annotation reads: "Aerial view of Perry with Silver Lake in the background, probably taken in 1953 to 1955. Perry Knitting Company is still intact. The new high school has been built . This was taken for a Chamber of Commerce big print for the information booth along the New York State Thruway." Also noteworthy is how agricultural fields nearly adjoin the factory's property, and how the housing grid appears to be nearly intact.
