This photograph appears in OpenValley because the Perry Knitting Company calculated that its production of Nitey Nite sleepers in 1952, if laid end to end, would total 1,788 miles in length. So Cripple Creek it was! Title A name given to the resource Open House With Nitey Nite Description An account of the resource Celebrating its 75th year of operation, the largest employer invited Perry townspeople for a two-hour tour of its facilities, during which 1,000 employers were at work to demonstrate the machines. There were refreshments and live flamingos. This eight-page pamphlet appears to have aided in a walking tour, with short, accessible descriptions and fanciful line drawings of children frolicking in "Nitey Nite" brand sleepwear. <br /><br />Another possible reason for the tour is hinted at in a news story describing how "Part of the reason for the open house was to attempt to interest some people in working at the plant" (Perry <em>Herald </em>28 May 1953: 1).<br /><br />This item consists of a cover photograph and a pdf file of the program's contents. In the meantime, the flyer mentions some striking statistics: <br /> <ul> <li>That a year's supply of cotton to produce Nitey Nites requires more than 8,000 acres of land;</li> <li>That the thread used to stitch a year's production would wrap around the earth 26 times;</li> <li>That a year's production of sleepers, laid end to end, would reach from Perry to Colorado;</li> <li>That stacking a year's production of Nitey Nites would reach into earth's stratosphere.</li> </ul> Quite an impressive accomplishment, and this is even before visiting the PKC factory.
