An account of the resource
The Sobol brothers, Ira and Benjamin, owned a chain of gas stations under license of Standard Oil of New York (SOCONY)--as of 1938, at more than 150 locations. They advertised them as "Stations of Reputation." A Sobol Bros. station appears in <a href="https://openvalley.org/items/show/1101" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Neva Coffey's painting "First Snow."</a>
