var str = 'According to the Rice Collection annotation, this is "Perry Knitting Mill from an early plate, 1880." That pre-dates the operation, but it does seem as though we're looking at the original Mill #1 building at an early date, prior to construction of Mill #2 in 1893. Downstream along the Silver Lake Outlet, at the right side of the photograph, is J.B. Hutton's Custom Cataract Mill. This latter building was demolished shortly after 1900.
The photograph here appears to have been lightly retouched. Also available is Rice Collection #5822, an unretouched version of the same image.';
